What is less fixed is the exact vendor and workshop schedule. That distinction matters, because it is easy for social posts to make an event sound more locked-in than the published information actually is.

The published event window is Wednesday 16 September to Sunday 20 September 2026, with hours of 12pm–10pm at the Concourse Level of Plaza Ombak KLCC, 20 Persiaran KLCC, Kuala Lumpur.
Those core details are supported in two different ways. The Ombak KLCC event directory lists the dates, hours, concourse location and free-entry format. Separately, Kuala Lumpur matcha business Jamboo posted on 24 August that it would be participating at Matcha Walk at Ombak KLCC from 16–20 September, 12pm–10pm.
That independent participant confirmation is useful because it backs up the most important planning facts without requiring travellers to rely on a single event-directory page. The safe planning assumption is therefore: the event is scheduled to run on those dates and hours, but the exact mix of stalls and programmed activities can still move.
02 · Is it really KL’s “first-ever matcha festival”?
That is how the event is being promoted. Jamboo’s participant post calls it the “FIRST-EVER MATCHA FESTIVAL IN KL”, and current event coverage uses similar language.
We are treating that as promotional billing, not an independently audited historical claim. Kuala Lumpur has had matcha-themed café events, launches and collaborations before, and there is no practical public registry that lets us prove nobody has ever staged a smaller dedicated matcha festival.
The useful part for visitors is not the superlative. It is that Matcha Walk appears to be a dedicated multi-day event built around matcha products and experiences rather than one matcha booth inside a larger food fair.
03 · What should you expect — and what is still fluid?
Current listings describe matcha drinks, sweets and desserts, with references to lifestyle stalls and workshops. Jamboo is one publicly confirmed participant. Beyond that, the responsible move is to avoid inventing a giant vendor list from scattered social posts.
The event directory itself notes that the public vendor directory was not fully locked when its preview was published. That means a reel or poster you see several days earlier may not represent the final floor. If there is one specific café, matcha grade, dessert or workshop you want, check the event’s live social account @matchawalk.my and the venue information on the day.
Free entry also does not mean a free tasting festival. The current listing says entry is free; drinks, desserts and other purchases are paid for at individual vendors. Prices, serving sizes and sell-outs will therefore vary stall by stall.
04 · When is the best time to go?
The event opens at noon rather than with the mall in the morning. If you want the simplest visit, arrive shortly after 12pm on a weekday and give yourself time to browse before the after-work period. That is a planning suggestion, not an organiser crowd forecast.
The first day, 16 September, is Malaysia Day, so it is sensible to expect the wider KLCC precinct to feel more like a public-holiday day out than an ordinary Wednesday. The weekend close on 19–20 September may also be busier simply because more people are off work. If queues matter more to you than atmosphere, Thursday 17 or Friday 18 September could be the more comfortable compromise.
Do not build a tight itinerary around one unpublished workshop time. The event has a ten-hour daily window, which makes it easy to combine with another KLCC stop and then adjust if a stall has a queue.

The easiest rail option listed for Plaza Ombak KLCC is Persiaran KLCC MRT station (PY21) on the Putrajaya Line. Current venue guides direct visitors toward Exit C and the underground link into the Ombak/KLCC precinct.
If you are already around Suria KLCC or the PETRONAS Twin Towers, Ombak is in the same broader KLCC district. Walking between attractions is usually simpler than adding another car trip. For ride-hailing or driving, use the live venue pin rather than an old construction-era address because Ombak only opened recently and map labels can lag.
The practical rule for any popular event in central KL is to leave buffer time. Free-entry pop-ups can create short bursts of queuing that do not show up in a formal timetable.
06 · What else can you combine with Matcha Walk?
Ombak KLCC is currently running several separate attractions, and it is easy to confuse their hours. GALERI PETRONAS’ First Glimpse preview is already open in the complex, but the gallery closes earlier than the mall and is closed on Mondays. The Nintendo and Pokémon Center pop-ups also began at Ombak KLCC on 12 September. They are separate from Matcha Walk, with their own stock, queues and operating arrangements. If you are combining them, treat Matcha Walk’s noon start and the gallery’s earlier closing time as the anchors, then fit the retail pop-ups around them.
That is a better plan than trying to do everything in one frantic lap. One reason Ombak works for this event is that you can make it part of a KLCC afternoon rather than a standalone cross-city mission.

Matcha products vary wildly. Some stalls may focus on straight tea or less-sweet drinks; others may be about cakes, soft serve, lattes or novelty desserts. If you care about tea origin, grade, sweetness or milk choice, ask the vendor rather than assuming every green drink is the same.
If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, confirm ingredients directly with the stall. Matcha desserts can contain dairy, eggs, nuts or gluten even when the tea itself does not. The festival listing is not a substitute for the vendor’s current allergen information.
It is also worth remembering that matcha contains caffeine. A five-stop tasting mission late at night can add up quickly, especially if every order is a full drink. Sharing a few items can be a better way to sample more stalls without turning the evening into a caffeine endurance event.
