KLCC Park is having a very different weekend from normal. Pokémon’s 30th-anniversary touring celebration, PokéXciting!, has chosen Kuala Lumpur as its first Asian stop, turning the park into a free fan event on 12 and 13 September.
The appeal goes beyond hardcore players. The official programme is built around large public installations, a locally themed Pikachu, daytime family activities, a night stage and a drone show behind one of Kuala Lumpur’s most recognisable skylines. That makes it part pop-culture event, part city spectacle and part very shareable free outing.
1. What is PokéXciting! in Kuala Lumpur?
PokéXciting! is The Pokémon Company’s travelling 30th-anniversary celebration for Asia. Kuala Lumpur is first, followed later by Taipei, Singapore, Manila and Bangkok. The KL edition is being held at KLCC Park on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2026.
The most useful fact is also the simplest: general admission is free and open to everyone. You do not need to buy a run entry, concert ticket or attraction pass simply to enter the public event area. 2. What can you see and do for free?

Kuala Lumpur also gets its own version of PokéXciting! Pikachu, wearing a turquoise-coloured costume unique to this stop. The organisers are promoting daytime activities for children and families, visitor giveaways while supplies last, and stage entertainment as the event transitions into evening.
If you are coming mainly for photos or with younger kids, I would favour daylight and late afternoon. If you want the largest spectacle, the nighttime programme is the obvious draw.
3. Pokémon GO is part of the event too
Pokémon GO has an official collaboration running at KLCC Park during PokéXciting!. The game’s event guide confirms themed gameplay at the park, including stamp-rally content and a local PokéXciting! Pikachu element.
That means it is worth arriving with your phone charged, mobile data working and a power bank if you plan to play heavily. As always with Pokémon GO in a crowded real-world venue, keep your attention on crossings, other pedestrians and event barriers instead of walking while staring at the screen.
4. The headline attraction is the Pokémon drone show
The Pokémon Company is billing Kuala Lumpur’s show as Malaysia’s first Pokémon-themed drone show, with synchronised lights bringing Pokémon imagery into the night sky behind the Petronas Twin Towers.
The programme also includes a high-energy night stage featuring PokéXciting! Pikachu. The official event page does not give a simple text timetable for every stage item in the crawlable announcement, so I would not invent a precise arrival minute. If the drone show is the reason you are going, arrive well before dark, use the official venue map and announcements, and leave enough time for crowd-control movement inside KLCC Park.
5. There is also a Pokémon Center pop-up at Ombak KLCC
Special Kuala Lumpur PokéXciting! merchandise is being sold through the Pokémon Center POP-UP Store in Kuala Lumpur from 12 September. The official Pokémon announcement warns that quantities are limited and that store access may be controlled when it is crowded.
Treat the park event and the shop as two related but separate experiences. You can enjoy the free outdoor celebration without making merchandise the centre of the day. If a specific item matters to you, check the latest official store-entry guidance rather than assuming you can simply walk in at any time.
6. How I would plan a visit
- Use rail if practical. KLCC is already one of the easiest central areas to reach without a car, and a major free event means parking and e-hailing approaches can be busier than a normal weekend.
- Arrive in daylight. Walk the POKÉGENIC installations and do the daytime activities before evening crowds build.
- Bring water and rain protection. Kuala Lumpur weather can turn quickly, and this is an outdoor park event.
- Charge your phone. Especially if you are playing Pokémon GO or photographing the event heavily.
- Keep the evening flexible. Stage timing, crowd-control access and weather can all affect how the night unfolds.
- Check official updates before leaving. Sunday is the final day, so live organiser information matters more than screenshots from earlier in the week.
7. What happens if the weather turns bad?
The official PokéXciting! visitor notice is explicit: heavy rain or strong wind can cause the event to be paused or cancelled. Updates are to be communicated through official social channels plus stage and venue announcements.
That matters in Kuala Lumpur, where a sunny afternoon can become a serious downpour quickly. If you are travelling across the city specifically for the drone show, check conditions shortly before departure rather than assuming an outdoor night programme is guaranteed.
Photos and video are also being captured at the venue for official promotional use, another point the organiser asks visitors to be aware of.
