Each profile below is written from published hotel information and aggregated guest feedback, not paid placement — we don't accept payment for inclusion or ranking. We're building this out property by property rather than launching with thin, copy-pasted listings, starting with a spread across budget, location and hotel style.

Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur — luxury, KLCC

One of KL's longest-standing five-star addresses, open since 1998 and directly opposite the Petronas Twin Towers with a connecting walkway to Suria KLCC mall. Rooms are split by view — city, park or a close-up of the towers themselves, with the tower-view rooms understandably the most requested. On-site facilities run to multiple restaurants and bars, an infinity pool overlooking KLCC Park, a full spa, and tennis and pickleball courts. Consistently rated for its central location and polished, old-school five-star service.

Traders Hotel, Kuala Lumpur by Shangri-La — upper-mid, KLCC

Sitting on the same KLCC block, Traders offers a more contemporary, slightly less formal take on the same prime location — a short walk from the towers and Suria KLCC, with a free shuttle buggy running to nearby malls. Its rooftop infinity pool and 33rd-floor SkyBar are genuinely well-regarded independent of the hotel itself, popular with non-guests for sunset drinks and Petronas Towers views. Rooms facing the towers directly are worth requesting.

The Federal Kuala Lumpur — historic, Bukit Bintang

Malaysia's first international-class hotel, opened in 1957 to coincide with independence, and still operating in the heart of Bukit Bintang today. It's less about five-star amenities and more about a genuine slice of KL hospitality history — it hosted the country's first revolving restaurant — combined with a location that puts you squarely in walking distance of Bukit Bintang's malls and Jalan Alor's street food.

Sama-Sama Hotel KL International Airport — airport, KLIA

Located within KLIA (Terminal 1), making it the most convenient option for a long layover, a very early departure, or a late arrival you'd rather not travel into the city for. Staff commonly point guests toward Grab over the train for onward city trips, since it's faster door to door. Best treated as a functional, comfortable stopover rather than a KL base — you're a meaningful drive from the city centre.

Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown — upper-mid, Chinatown

Opened December 2019 right beside Petaling Street, this 318-room hotel leans into its setting with heritage-inspired decor rather than a generic business-hotel look — a lobby on the 7th floor, oriental motifs and warm tones throughout. It sits a short walk from Petaling Street market, Sri Mahamariamman Temple and Merdeka 118, with its rooftop pool and JANN bar drawing particular praise for skyline views taking in KL Tower, the Petronas Towers and Merdeka 118 together.

Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur — upscale, Bangsar

A modern high-rise property elevated above Bangsar, part of Hyatt's Alila brand, generally praised for spacious, stylish rooms with strong city views and a calmer, more design-led feel than the big KLCC names. Guests consistently rate the pool, gym and complimentary snacks well; the main trade-off noted in reviews is a slightly less walkable immediate surrounding than being right in Bangsar Village itself.

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur — luxury, city centre

Open since 1985 on Jalan Sultan Ismail in the city centre, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur is one of the longer-established five-star names in the city, set on landscaped grounds with 662 rooms and suites across a high-rise tower. It sits close to KL Tower, KL Forest Eco Park and the Petronas Twin Towers, with a hotel shuttle running to Bukit Bintang's shopping strip. Guests consistently highlight the pool area — tucked behind lush gardens — and the spread of on-site dining, which runs to around seven or eight restaurants and bars.

JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur — luxury, Bukit Bintang

A 561-to-738-room tower (reported room counts vary slightly by source) directly on Jalan Bukit Bintang in the Golden Triangle, connected straight into The Starhill shopping mall and sitting opposite Pavilion KL — about as central to Bukit Bintang's shopping and nightlife as a hotel gets. Known locally as "The Happening Hotel," it's popular for both business events (18 function venues) and leisure stays, with Shook!, a long-running and well-regarded restaurant, among its dining options.

Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur — luxury, KLCC

Sitting right beside the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, a five-minute walk from Suria KLCC and the Petronas Towers, Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is known for having some of the largest standard rooms among the city's five-star hotels (around 47 sqm) and a dramatic sky-lobby with panoramic views. Its 411 rooms and suites mostly offer floor-to-ceiling windows facing either the towers or KLCC Park, and it's a five-minute walk from Aquaria KLCC — a genuinely convenient pairing if that's on your itinerary.

The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur — luxury, Golden Triangle

Located at 168 Jalan Imbi in the Golden Triangle, The Ritz-Carlton is connected via a link bridge directly to Starhill Gallery and the Bintang Walk shopping belt, around a 5-minute walk from Pavilion KL and Lot 10. Its roughly 364 rooms and suites are known for floor-to-ceiling windows and marble bathrooms, and the hotel is consistently ranked among the top butler-service hotels in the world, with 24-hour butler service included as standard rather than a premium add-on. W Kuala Lumpur — luxury, Golden Triangle

Set at 121 Jalan Ampang, directly across from the Petronas Twin Towers and under a kilometre from the Bukit Nanas monorail station, W Kuala Lumpur brings the brand's playful, design-forward identity to KL's skyline — 150 rooms and suites with jungle-city styling, plus 18 suites including two WOW Suites and the 5,000+ sq ft Extreme WOW Suite. WET Deck, the rooftop pool and bar facing the towers, is a genuinely well-known nightlife spot in its own right, not just a hotel amenity.

The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur — luxury, KL Sentral

Opened in 2016 in the KL Sentral business district, The St. Regis occupies floors seven to 21 of a 48-storey tower, with 208 rooms and suites reported among the largest standard rooms in the city, each with butler service as standard — a St. Regis brand signature since its founding by John Jacob Astor IV. Its KL Sentral location puts it a short walk from the KLIA Ekspres platform, useful for anyone prioritising a fast airport run over being inside the KLCC/Bukit Bintang core.

Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur — luxury, KLCC

Opened in November 2018 at 145 Jalan Ampang, immediately beside KLCC Park, Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur holds a Michelin Guide "Key" distinction and offers 209 rooms across floors eight to 18, with park, pool-garden or skyline views. It's genuinely close to the Petronas Towers and Suria KLCC — often cited by guests as a few minutes' walk — with Bar Trigona, its cocktail bar, independently rated among Asia's best.

Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur — luxury, Golden Triangle

Occupying the upper floors of a curved skyscraper at 2 Jalan Conlay, Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur is an intimate, resort-style property in the city — just 55 rooms and suites, each with floor-to-ceiling windows and either an oversized soaking tub or a private relaxation pool, many facing the Petronas Towers and KL Tower directly. It's a 3-minute walk from Pavilion KL, with Vertigo, its rooftop bar, drawing praise as one of the best skyline views in the city independent of being a hotel guest.

The Westin Kuala Lumpur — luxury, Bukit Bintang

A 35-to-38-storey tower directly in the Golden Triangle, a few metres from Pavilion KL and close to Lot 10 and Fahrenheit88, The Westin Kuala Lumpur pairs the brand's wellness-focused identity (Heavenly Bed, WestinWORKOUT gear) with several hundred rooms and serviced apartments — reported room counts vary by source between roughly 380 and 443 depending on whether serviced apartments are included. It's a short walk from Bukit Bintang monorail station, with multiple in-house restaurants and an outdoor pool.

Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur — luxury, KL Sentral

Directly across from KL Sentral station and adjoining the Hilton Kuala Lumpur (the two share some facilities, including pool access), Le Méridien has 420 guestrooms with a design-forward, "chic" identity distinct from more traditional five-star properties in the city. Its KL Sentral location gives it the same fast, direct KLIA Ekspres access as its Hilton neighbour — around 28 minutes to the airport — while sitting close to Chinatown, Central Market and Merdeka Square.

Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur — upper-mid, Bukit Bintang

Located at 160 Jalan Bukit Bintang, directly beside Pavilion KL and opposite Fahrenheit88, Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur offers 468 rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows, an outdoor pool, and a Club Lounge with city and Petronas Towers views from its upper floors. Consistently praised by guests for its location — genuinely central to Bukit Bintang's shopping — more than for cutting-edge design, it's a reliable, well-located choice among the area's five-star options.

InterContinental Kuala Lumpur — luxury, KLCC

Set on Jalan Ampang, a five-minute walk from the Petronas Twin Towers, Suria KLCC and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, InterContinental Kuala Lumpur offers 473 rooms with Super King-sized beds, including 110 renovated Grand Premier rooms, plus a Club InterContinental lounge and the Peranakan-themed Jade Heritage Spa. It's within walking distance of two rail stations and runs a complimentary shuttle to Pavilion KL and Suria KLCC for guests who'd rather not walk.

Sunway Velocity Hotel — mid-range, Cheras

Opened in 2017 as the only integrated, transit-oriented hotel in Cheras, this 351-room, 16-storey property sits inside the RM4 billion Sunway Velocity development, directly connected to Sunway Velocity Mall via the lobby and linked to the Cochrane and Maluri MRT stations. It's about a 4-minute drive from Berjaya Times Square and 6 minutes from the Petronas Towers, with an outdoor infinity pool and 24-hour fitness centre among its facilities. Guest reviews consistently highlight the direct mall access and MRT proximity as standout conveniences.

Sunway Putra Hotel — luxury, Chow Kit / PWTC

A 35-storey, 650-room hotel directly opposite World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (formerly PWTC), connected to Sunway Putra Mall and the PWTC light rail station. Rooms run up to a 72 sqm Family Suite with access to a Club Lounge, and the hotel has been recognised as Best City Hotel in Malaysia at the International Travel Awards. A 519-room property at 13 Jalan Pinang, directly opposite the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and connected via a covered, air-conditioned link bridge to it, with Suria KLCC and the Petronas Towers both around a 5-10 minute walk away. 188 of its rooms come with Club-level services, and the hotel runs an outdoor pool, spa, gym and several dining options including Cedar, its 15th-floor fine-dining restaurant, plus Bohemia Tobacco Bar and Oswego Wine Bar. Reviews consistently praise the location and breakfast buffet, with repeat guests unusually common for the category.

Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel & Residences — luxury, Bukit Bintang

On Jalan Conlay, directly opposite Pavilion KL with skybridge walkways connecting in multiple directions, this property combines 450 hotel rooms and suites with 157 separate residences, aimed at both short stays and longer, apartment-style ones. Its 10th-floor rooftop level holds a garden, pool, Fit Lounge and the Vibes Urban Wellness spa, and on-site dining runs to five or six restaurants and bars spanning Cantonese, Japanese and Malaysian cuisine.
