Citrawarna Speed Festival 2026: Free Putrajaya & KLIA Culture-Meets-Motorsport Guide

Malaysia is giving Citrawarna a motorsport remix. The new Citrawarna Speed Festival takes a cultural-tourism format better known for colourful performances and combines it with racing memorabilia, supercars and simulator competition. For travellers, that makes it more than a mall activation: the official programme spreads activity across Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur International Airport, while keeping the main public venue at IOI City Mall.

The key planning advantage is simple: official admission is free. The key planning limitation is equally important: as of 13 September, Tourism Malaysia has confirmed the dates, venues and headline components but has not published a complete day-by-day timetable. The safest plan is to choose your likely venue first, then re-check the live festival channels before travelling.

01 · What is confirmed for Citrawarna Speed Festival 2026?

Tourism Malaysia’s 10 September announcement sets the festival for Wednesday 23 September through Sunday 4 October 2026. The official Malaysia Truly Asia event page identifies IOI City Mall Putrajaya as the main venue and lists side activities at KLIA Terminal 1 and Sama-Sama Hotel.

The same official event listing marks admission as free. That is the clearest published entry information available at verification time. However, “free admission” should not be stretched into an assumption that every simulator competition entry, reserved activity or later-announced special experience will automatically require no registration. Tourism Malaysia says competition rules, eligibility, registration details, schedules and terms will be announced separately.

This is part of the Visit Malaysia 2026–2027 campaign and is supported by tourism, cultural, airport, hotel, technology and motorsport partners. The public-facing programme is built around two main strands — Colours of Speed and Colours of Art & Culture — plus the large Colours of Parade.

02 · Colours of Speed: supercars, memorabilia and simulator racing

The motorsport side is not being marketed as a live circuit race. Tourism Malaysia says visitors can expect a collection display with racing memorabilia and autographed items, a showcase of iconic supercars, and interactive motorsport experiences.

At IOI City Mall Putrajaya, members of the public will be able to enter a racing simulator competition. The announced format includes qualifying stages, a final and prizes. What is not yet published is the detailed registration process, eligibility criteria, session timetable or exact prize structure.

If the simulator competition is the main reason for your visit, treat the current announcement as a heads-up rather than a booking confirmation. Watch the official Citrawarna channels for the registration window and competition conditions instead of assuming walk-up entry will be available on every festival day.

03 · Colours of Art & Culture and the 1,500-performer parade

The cultural half of the programme will feature music and dance performances, handicraft displays and interactive activities representing Malaysian traditions and communities. Tourism Malaysia is positioning the festival as a way to connect motorsport audiences with the country’s cultural heritage rather than running two unrelated events side by side.

The headline cultural attraction is Colours of Parade, announced with 1,500 dancers and cultural performers from different regions and communities across Malaysia. The official description promises traditional music, dance, colourful costumes and broader cultural expression.

The parade date, start time, route and viewing arrangements were not yet published in the 10 September announcement. Tourism Malaysia explicitly says further Colours of Parade details will come later. Until those details land, do not assume the parade runs daily or that it will take place at the same venue as every other festival component.

04 · Three venues — and they are not all in central Kuala Lumpur

The main venue is IOI City Mall at IOI Resort City, Putrajaya. The mall’s own current visitor information lists daily business hours of 10:00am–10:00pm, but those are mall hours, not a confirmed festival timetable. Individual Citrawarna activities may use different operating windows once the detailed schedule is published.

The two airport-side locations are KLIA Terminal 1 and the adjacent Sama-Sama Hotel. The hotel is connected to Terminal 1 by a covered skybridge; Sama-Sama currently states that the walk from the main terminal takes about five minutes and that a complimentary 24-hour buggy service operates across the link.

That split matters for itinerary planning. A traveller with a long airport layover may find KLIA-side activity practical without heading to Putrajaya, while someone going specifically for the simulator competition or main exhibition should plan around IOI City Mall unless a later schedule says otherwise.

05 · Getting to IOI City Mall and linking Putrajaya with KLIA

IOI City Mall says its dedicated shuttle bus service has ceased until further notice. Its current access page lists public/Smart bus options and says a taxi trip from Putrajaya Sentral to IOI City Mall is about 15 minutes. That makes Putrajaya Sentral a useful public-transport interchange, but not a door-to-door rail stop for the mall.

For travellers combining Putrajaya with the airport, KLIA Transit provides the cleanest rail link. KLIA Ekspres currently lists a 16-minute KLIA Transit journey from Putrajaya & Cyberjaya station to KLIA Terminal 1, with a published adult one-way fare of RM9.40. The MRT Putrajaya Line also connects into the same Putrajaya Sentral transport complex, with the KLIA Transit station a short walk away.

Do not confuse that rail link with a festival shuttle. At verification time we found no official announcement of a special Citrawarna shuttle between IOI City Mall, Putrajaya Sentral and KLIA. If the organisers add one later, the live festival information should take precedence.

06 · Is the KLIA side worth planning around a flight?

Potentially, yes — but only once the daily programme is clearer. Terminal 1 and Sama-Sama Hotel are confirmed side-activity locations, which gives arriving, departing and transiting travellers a convenient chance to encounter part of the festival without making a separate Putrajaya mall trip.

Sama-Sama’s direct Terminal 1 connection makes the hotel portion particularly easy to reach landside. But the current Tourism Malaysia announcement does not assign specific attractions, days or times to each airport-side location. If you have a flight, immigration deadline or tight connection, do not trade airport buffer time for an activity whose exact schedule has not yet been published.

A sensible airport rule is to treat Citrawarna as a bonus unless the organisers later publish a specific KLIA activity you want to see. Flight, check-in and immigration timing should remain the fixed points of the day.

07 · Don’t confuse this with July’s Citrawarna 2026 in central KL

Citrawarna Speed Festival is a new September–October programme, not a rerun of the July Citrawarna celebration at Dataran Merdeka. Tourism Malaysia’s July Citrawarna programme centred on cultural parade, food, culture and arts in central Kuala Lumpur and featured a much larger 3,500-performer parade.

The new Speed Festival uses the Citrawarna identity but changes the mix and locations: motorsport-inspired displays and simulator competition become major hooks, IOI City Mall Putrajaya becomes the main venue, and KLIA Terminal 1 plus Sama-Sama Hotel join as side locations.

If search results or social posts show footage of a giant July parade around Dataran Merdeka, do not assume that is the route or setup for this later festival. The new Colours of Parade is separately announced at 1,500 performers, and its route/details remain pending.

08 · The practical traveller plan right now

• Choose your priority: simulator/supercars points toward IOI City Mall; airport-side activities may suit transit or flight days.
• Keep the date range: 23 September–4 October 2026.
• Use “free admission” accurately: it is confirmed on Malaysia’s official tourism event page, but later competition registration conditions can still apply.
• Re-check before travelling: exact daily schedules, parade details and simulator rules are still pending.
• Do not rely on an old mall shuttle: IOI City Mall currently says its dedicated shuttle is suspended until further notice.
• Build transport around real interchanges: Putrajaya Sentral for MRT/KLIA Transit, then local transport to IOI City Mall.
• Protect flight buffers: KLIA activities are convenient, but airport deadlines beat festival curiosity.

The good news is that the festival window is long enough to avoid panic-planning. Unless you are chasing the simulator competition final or the main parade, there is little reason to lock yourself into a specific hour before the full programme is released.
